In from Lu Curates Media

October 18, 2016 Melissa LuVisi

It's common knowledge that I spend most of my workday on social media. A large portion of that is on Facebook. As my company continues to grow, I've started working with larger and larger businesses. However, there a few things I realized everyone can be doing: Read More Here!

My Existential Crisis

The moment I realized I wanted to become a mother is one of my most vivid memories.

I had just graduated from UCLA and had invited my little sister to stay with me for a week after graduation. I knew that her living situation with our own biological mother was unstable. She was 14 years old and about to enter high school in one of the poorer areas outside of Reno, Nevada. I thought that if I could get her excited about college and the class jump it could provide, if I could show her what it looks like to not live in poverty, then maybe I could plant a seed of hope to help her navigate the turbulent future she had in front of her.

My Unconventional "Family"

One of the main reasons I moved back to California, more specifically to my hometown, was to take care of my brother. I knew I was going to need a community of people to pull it off. It doesn’t hurt that Grass Valley is significantly more affordable than the bay area. However, the rural high school in my hometown wasn’t able to provide the services we needed to support Dominic. This is common problem for families with deaf children. Luckily, our friends who lived in the county over, the same one we needed to live in for him to attend school, had a roommate move-out and offered to have us move-in -- giving us two rooms in their home.

Road Trips in Review

March 23, 2016 Melissa LuVisi
Pittsburgh

Growing up in California lends itself to driving. In one day you can go from snowboarding in Tahoe to catching the sunset over the Golden Gate bridge. Road-tripping from one end of the state to the other isn’t uncommon and this weekend I headed up to Bass Lake for a wedding. After three hours of driving I realized that while I wrote about road trip essentials before I left on my cross country trip last winter, I never put together a collection of all the cool places I explored.

Links, Lust, N'at

January 13, 2016 Melissa LuVisi

It’s been awhile since my last Links, Lust, N’at! I hope everyone is settling into their new 2016 routines. Over the holiday, I moved to Auburn, California which is still close to my home town but very new to me. It's crazy how I grew-up just under a half an hour away yet know nothing about the area. I'm excited to adventure.

Expect to see loads of snowy mountain pics on instagram!  California has been in a terrible drought and everyone is super stoked to get snow and rain. We live only 45 mins away from the Tahoe area and plan on spending many a weekend there.

Now that Serial Season 2  is here, I know exactly what I’ll be listening to during walks, kitchen duty, and drives to school! Have you been tuning in?

Thanks to GoodReads, I have my reading list lined up too! They compiled a list of the best books of 2015, and there are so many I can’t wait to read.

In fashion news, I’ve been incredibly taken with the new collection from Paloma Wool. I’ve followed her work for awhile, and each season impresses me more.

Another thing I’m still obsessed with? Rings. These quirky numbers by Mejuri are at the top of my wishlist.

I’ve been trying to stay more up-to-date on the news, and signing up for the daily debrief from The New York Times has helped a lot!

I’m always looking for ways to simplify my life, and this article from Jessi of Modern Wonderland is a must read! I can’t wait to work on my capsule wardrobe now.

Cheers! I’ll leave you with this little bit of inspiration: Be The Leslie Knope Of Whatever You Do.
