Show Notes

We’re back!
- Quyhn: You’re allowed to reset in Life!
Melissa: And LIVE is so raw, it’s all about the bloopers
- Quyhn: John C. Maxwell, is a speaker, entrepreneur, he wrote a ton of books and my biggest takeaway, is the power of your environment.
- Melissa: I’m making huge changes in my life, I’m practically a walking self help book. I’m coming out of a depressive break and I’m slowly crawling out of it. I’m taking a parenting program called the Nurtured Heart Approach.
- Melissa: Surround yourself with people who motivate you. Cynthia Johnson started a reading group named #ReadwithCynthia which recently featured, How to Talk to Crazy by Dr. Mark Goulston.
- Melissa: Don’t have difficult people in your life. Replace them with positive energetic people.
- Quyhn: I have zero negative energy in my life. I would say the only negative energy I have in my life is myself and my distractions.
Melissa: But you can change that!
- Quyhn: Questions to ask to see if your environment is toxic. 1. Are the people around you supportive and encouraging? When people are doubting you it is a reflection of how they feel about themselves.
- Melissa: Positive content people offer sympathy not judgement.
- Melissa: I’ve been using this app, Way of Life (app), suggested by THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL.
- Melissa: The app reminds you to stay present in the daily.
- Quyhn: Maxwell was talking about this… collecting small wins throughout your day adds up to something huge.
- Quyhn: The moment you start doing stuff for yourself, you get extra energy!
- Melissa: You can only take care of other people if you are taking care of yourself.
- Melissa: Make sure you are living in your own life not other people's lives. - Quyhn: The second thing is, are you in an environment where you are being challenged and getting out of your comfort zone. If you’re comfortable, you aren’t growing. - Melissa: Always be pitching.
- Quyhn: Third one is surround yourself by people who are growing.
- Quyhn: The fourth one is surround yourself with people who are a level up from you.
- Melissa: It’s about Accountability.
- Melissa: I’m trying to be more sympathetic, compassionate and understanding.
- Quyhn: Be. Do. Have. Become it, so you can do it and you’ll have it in your life.
- Quyhn: Remove one toxic thing at a time in your life.

The Art Fair Vibe

In January I went to the opening of Untitled, an art fair that’s new to the Bay Area. As they did in Miami, the fair wildly excited me. It’s more than just an art fair. It’s exclusively contemporary art (which is my jam) and, it’s undoubtedly well curated. The space, Pier 70 sits along the water in San Francisco down the street from the Giants stadium. The flow was almost ethereal. I had never been to the space before but I heard when tech conferences happen there they are dry, filled with crowded booths and not a curated experience.

The Opening of Untitled

My first experience with Untitled was a couple years ago in Miami during the famed Art Basel. It was one of those off-shoot satellite fairs that every artist and their fabulous cohorts told me was a must-see. I was floored at Untitled’s use of space and show of contemporary work in 2014.  So you can imagine my excitement when they announced they’d be coming to San Francisco in January. This is the first time the international fair has exhibited in the Bay Area. It’s programming is top notch and is accompanied with it’s own live radio coverage. Why is this significant? Because the S.F. art scene is preparing to put itself back on the international map… and that my friends makes it an exciting time to be an art nomad in these parts.

I’m heading to the Press and VIP preview today. If they let me, I will be Snapping (@LuCurates) and might even attempt to go LIVE (fb.com/lucurates).

New Beginnings, Hello 2017!

January 12, 2017 Melissa LuVisi

There are two camps when it comes to New Year's Resolutions. Either you love making them, or you don't.. I’m here to say, I LOVE resolutions. It doesn’t matter if we start making them at the beginning of the year or on a random Wednesday. Call me a hopeless optimist, but it takes courage to acknowledge a struggle and then try to change it.
